Kailua Beach, Oahu

Aloha! My name is **Kaveri!  Born in Honolulu, I lived 2 ½ blocks from Kailua Beach on Oahu with my family.

The white sand, turquoise ocean and warm breezes were truly heaven on earth. I'm sure that my love of nature began on that beach.

We moved to the Bay Area when I was 4, settling in Napa, where I grew up. After graduating high school. I worked in the wine industry for a short while like many valley kids.

But I craved adventure so I headed north to the Okanogan Valley in Washington to pick apples.

The barn loft next to the orchard where I worked had fruit bats living in it. They were so shy and cute with their wings wrapped around them like blankets when they slept!

After working the harvest, it came time for yet another adventure so I headed to Hawaii, my first visit since I was a tot.

When I descended the stairs from the plane to the tarmac upon landing in Kona, I had the stunning sensation, that I had found "home". At last...

So….what'd I do? I sewed up my life back on the mainland and moved to Kona, of course!! The magnetic pull could not be denied.

I settled up mauka (up the mountain) above the town of Captain Cook with a community of like-hearted souls. We were off-grid, a mile above the main two-lane road.

Living in a remote area without electromatic waves, my senses became radically keen. I was able to feel the energies of the land, the aina.

When I began painting, these energies were organically transmuted into my work.

After 6 years off-grid, we moved down the hill, to our on-grid, 1-acre property, outside of Kainaliu. It was here that I began my painting odyssey.

On a whim, I signed up for a watercolor class with a well-known artist down the hill in Kailua-Kona.

We were to paint a waterfall scene from a picture provided by the instructor.

By the end of class, I was shocked that I'd created a more than decent painting.

“You have something here, you must keep going.", the instructor remarked. And I did!

Our yard in Kainaliu was a botanical wonderland with exotic flowers that became the inspiration for my paintings.

Painting of waterfall

My first painting!

My life in Kona was right out of a storybook, yet, after 17 years, it was time to reintegrate back into Bay Area life...I had had a good run in Hawaii!

My adventure continued....I moved from Kona into a cottage in an oak grove, on a hilltop with a view of Sonoma Valley, land of luminous full moons, fine wine and gourmet cuisine.

I dove right in and began painting the new subject matter, starting with roses!
